Alpha Omega began as a vision which God bestowed upon His servants Odali and Kathy Barros several years ago. As they were living their life, serving Him day by day, He brought to them a young boy who needed the love of God to touch his life in a real, tangible way. He had no home, no family, no future. Through their own young son, they learned of this boy's condition and felt the Lord prompting them to take him into their home. As the years passed, God brought other children into the life of the Barros, and each one was accepted in. Eventually, after much prayer, Odali and Kathy realized that God was calling them to reach out to the children of Garca on a much broader scope, and in a step of continuing faith, they began the children's ministry of Alpha Omega.
Alpha Omega is a home that accepts 'at-risk' children who have come from a variety of difficult circumstances. Some are orphans, but most have come from abusive home situations. Others have been caught up in a life of drugs, alcohol, and/or prostitution. All of them are given an environment where they are shown, in a tangible way, the love of God in their own life. The home has been recognized by city and state officials, and a number of the children they have received in recent years have come through governmental counseling agencies who have referred parents to the Barros and Alpha Omega.
An abandoned hospital, which had existed empty for over five years, now serves as the current location and facility of Alpha Omega. In need of drastic repairs, the building is still being renovated as funds allow. The building itself rests on a thirty-acre, self-contained campus with nearby coffee fields and residential areas on the outskirts of the city of Garca, Brazil. It features six wings covering 42,000 square feet of living quarters. Included in this living space are eight kitchens, two cafeterias, an assembly hall, laundry, dispensary, and courtyard. Each of the halls are equipped with dorm parents who live there with their own children in a semi-private living quarters along with a specific section of the children.
